About Argentum

Our business was started when a general interest in jewellery grew from making for a few friends to running stalls at craft fairs and organising jewellery parties. Since then we have expanded our range to include polished silver and an excellent range of specialist jewellery from Nepal, which has now become a personal favourite. Though we have a range of jewellery our main focus has been on Nepal and the unique nature of the craftsmanship that we have found there.

Therefore, much of the wholesale silver jewellery represented on our website is handcrafted in Nepal. The stones are genuine and semi-precious and the vast majority of pieces are from Nepal with some pieces from India. The settings are sterling silver. The "925" stamp on the bottom of each piece is assurance that the metal is 92.5% silver which is an industry standard and also referred to as sterling silver. We are very careful about who we choose for suppliers, only using those with the highest quality standards and those which treat their crafters fairly, and do not employ child labour.

All the jewellery from Nepal is made in a type of "cottage industry." There are 15-20 families in Katmandu and in the surrounding hills who craft the silver jewellery in their homes. This is a means for them to generate extra revenue for their family at their own convenience. Thus, it often means no two pieces are exactly the same and you can really feel the attention and personal dedication in each piece.

In addition, to buying some great products on this site, your purchase will also help crafters in Nepal whose livelihoods are very much tied to the export business. As we feel very much for the plight of the children in these countries, we are donating a percentage of all profits to help support the education of the children in Nepal.
